Magnificent Acadian village located far from big urban centres, Pomquet (« sandy beach or good place to land », in mi’kmaq) is located along the shores of Saint-Georges Bay in Antigonish County, on the North coast of Nova Scotia. The county, which includes the Town of Antigonish, has a population of approximately 18,000 inhabitants, with approximately 1,000 living in Pomquet. Almost half of the population of Pomquet is of Acadian descent.
